What is an On/Off Hire Bunker & Hold Condition Survey?
On/Off Hire surveys are critical inspections conducted when a vessel begins or ends a charter period. With full knowledge of what owners and charterers expect, we provide professional bunker quantity surveys and hold condition inspections to document the vessel's exact condition and fuel quantities at the time of delivery or redelivery.
These surveys protect both parties by establishing accurate baseline measurements, preventing disputes over fuel consumption, cargo hold cleanliness, and vessel condition. Our IIMS certified surveyors deliver precise bunker calculations using industry-standard methods and comprehensive photographic documentation of hold conditions.
Our On/Off Hire Survey Process
1
Bunker Quantity Survey
Accurate measurement of all fuel tanks using sounding, ullage, or flow meter methods. We calculate bunker quantities using vessel-specific calibration tables, temperature corrections, and density measurements. Fuel samples taken for quality analysis. Detailed documentation of fuel grades, quantities, and locations for owner and charterer records.
2
Hold Condition Inspection
Comprehensive inspection of all cargo holds, ballast tanks, and storage spaces. We document cleanliness levels, residue presence, structural condition, coating status, and any damage or defects. Photographic evidence of hold conditions with detailed written descriptions. Verification of hold readiness for next cargo or compliance with charter party requirements.
3
Vessel General Condition Assessment
Overall inspection of vessel's operational condition including machinery spaces, deck equipment, navigation systems, safety equipment, and accommodation areas. Documentation of any damage, defects, or discrepancies between on-hire and off-hire conditions. Verification of vessel's compliance with charter party specifications and industry standards.
4
Documentation Review & Verification
Review of vessel certificates, logbooks, maintenance records, and previous survey reports. Verification of charter party terms compliance. Documentation of crew handover procedures, spare parts inventory, and consumables. Confirmation of all required documentation is complete and valid for charter period commencement or conclusion.
5
Comprehensive Report Delivery
Detailed written report with bunker quantity calculations, hold condition photographs, vessel condition assessment, and signed statements. Delivered within 24 hours to both owner and charterer representatives. Reports include all measurements, calculations, photographic evidence, and recommendations. Accepted by P&I Clubs, charterers, owners, and maritime authorities worldwide for dispute resolution.
